Get Fit with the Whole Family this January

Another year come and gone, and many are anticipating in excitement what is to come in 2017. Many may even be working on their laundry list of New Year’s resolutions. Topping many New Year’s resolution lists year after year are diet and exercise. Statistic Brain’s website indicates only eight percent of people are successful in achieving their resolutions. Of those who make New Year’s resolutions, only 46 percent maintained them past six months. Considering the importance of maintaining health, why not make it a lifestyle instead of a resolution?

January is National Family Fit Lifestyle Month, and we’re challenging families across the nation to adopt healthy lifestyle habits, including a nutritious diet. Not only is discovering new healthy foods like sorghum and engaging in physical activities fun, it gives your family the opportunity to spend more time together, too. Is your family ready to become healthier, stronger and ready to take on the world this year? Here are a few ideas to get started:

- Incorporate a new family fitness activity into your daily routine, like riding bikes or taking your dog on a walk.

- Make cooking fun by bringing the whole family into the kitchen to help. While prepping and cooking, discuss the difference and benefits of eating healthier.

- Throw an after dinner dance party! Pick your favorite family tunes and get everyone in on the fun. Who said physical activity can’t be exciting?

- As your family explores new healthy food options, cut fruits and vegetables into fun shapes the kids will love to try!

Whole grains are also a great addition to your family’s plates. Sorghum is a healthy whole grain full of protein, fiber, magnesium, iron and vitamin B6 to help give your family the nutritional boost they need.
